  1. I have a “I remember where I was when …” moment with Whitney because it was so meaningful with the beginning of the Gulf War.

    However, my favorite version was the one that Sandy Patti sang on the 4th of July in 1987 (if I remember correctly) for the re-opening of the Statue of Liberty. I think this is the performance I saw, but I can’t tell for sure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMWDm25L0v0 – The recording is very soft, but wow. I cannot imagine singing that live in front of a huge outdoor crowd at night and nailing the ending.

    the ssb was meant to be sung by someone like whitney.

    jennifer hudson channeled herself some whitney at this past super bowl, but after watching super bowl XXV again, whitney is a perma-level above all.
